Heywood North Councillors check out the winning designs

Councillors Peter Rush and Malcolm Bruce judge the designs

Local school Children at All Souls Primary School were recently asked to show off there artistic skills as local Councillors set them the task of designing a Christmas card.

Heywood North Councillors, Peter Rush, Doreen Brophy-Lee and Malcolm Bruce decided this year to send a Christmas card for all 4,200 households I the Heywood North ward, along with a list of council emergency contact numbers for the festive period. The theme they asked the children to depict was Heywood at Christmas.

The card that was picked for printing was designed by 9-year-old Lewis Brown of Class 5 and features Heywood Town centre at Christmas. His design was chosen from more than 100 drawings, paintings and collages submitted by the school children.

Lewis' design will be the official Christmas card used by the Heywood North Liberal Democrats and will be delivered to all residents across the ward. Lewis was presented with the £30 voucher for JD Sports.

Heywood North Councillor Peter Rush said: "I was absolutely delighted with the response to our Christmas card competition. It was obvious that the children of All Souls Primary School really did put a lot of effort into their designs and picking a winner wasn't easy. It is clear to see that we have a fair few budding artists in Heywood and I thank all of them for taking part.

"I would like to congratulate Lewis on his winning card. His creative design has been made up into our official Christmas card for the Heywood North Ward. It will be a privilege to deliver them."

Local Councillor Malcolm Bruce said: "We were overwhelmed by the children's responses and I would like to say a big thank you too them all. There was a fantastic level of talent on show and we were very impressed by the imaginative design by our winner, which stood out from the rest. I personally enjoyed looking through them all and it was clear to see that a lot of time and effort had been put into every single one.
