Castleton putting ward funds to use12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 19th Sep 2008
The Rochdale Township awarded £6,000 to each ward in the town earlier this year and in Castleton they have spent some of their funding in a bid to tackle the area's anti-social behaviour problem. A CCTV camera has been positioned at the railway station after criminal damage and anti-social behaviour blighted both the station and passing trains in the past few months. Meanwhile a bollard was installed on the footpath at Keswick Street to stop cars from driving up the path and putting pedestrians at risk. Litter bins were also placed along the footpath after residents raised their concerns at an Area Forum. Castleton Councillor Ted Flynn said: "The money from the Township can be used for improvements to the area or granted to community groups. We meet regularly with members of the Area Forum to consider suggestions and to look at bids from local groups. If you are involved with a community group in Castleton and would like to know more about how to apply, please contact the Township Office who will be happy to offer help and guidance."
