Misery goes on on for local residents - Councillor Wera Hobhouse12.00.00am GMT Mon 17th Dec 2007
Heywood and Middleton Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman Councillor Wera Hobhouse is extremely concerned that the misery for local residents will go on in the loss of personal data by the Government. It has been confirmed today the DVLA is the latest Government Department that has lost personal data on discs. It is now clear that this Government is systematically putting personal data of residents as risk, if it's not the HM Revenues and Customs, its DWP and now we hear it's the DVLA. Councillor Hobhouse comments: "I am once again extremely concerned that personal data is being lost of local residents in such a careless way. This is no way for the Government to function and it is now clear that this breach of trust with local residents is systematic across many Government Departments. Local residents are clear that the Government is failing in its primary role in protecting people. This Government is drifting from one crisis to another, confidence in the Government is at an all time low and it is clear that they are unable to take on the role of protecting people. How surprising when local residents look to their MP to provide a voice, our MP is quite silent on these issues. There is now a pattern in Heywood and Middleton where the Labour Party is protecting absent Councillors living in Spain and claiming allowances, the MP is silent on this important breach of personal data and the Labour vote crumbling according to the latest By Election result in Middleton North. Time is running out for Labour and people want change, only the Liberal Democrats can provide this in Heywood and Middleton"
